7.30pm. This one act, unfinished play, was originally discovered in 1836 after Buchner’s death. Subsequently completed by various authors, it is regarded as the first modern play with a working class man as its central character. Woyzeck serves the army Captain, is experimented on by the regimental doctor, who forces him to eat peas, leaving him little time with his wife Marie and their baby son; the only things that keep him sane. With an absent Woyzeck, Marie’s head is turned by the Drum Major. Woyzeck’s world falls apart and he descends into madness, taking his dreadful revenge on the unfaithful Marie.
