Connecting Devon and Somerset (CDS) phase 1 is now closed.  Further information about this phase is available on this press release can be found here.

The CDS phase 2 contract is in its early stages and  has been awarded to Gigaclear.  The announcement of this scheme is available here.  Gigaclear’s website can  be found here, if you wish to  find out more about them. This programme will focus on creating a new fibre network and offering a Fibre to the Premise (FTTP) solution to residents (unlike the copper solution provided by BT). We anticipate news of their roll-out plans shortly.

The most exciting news is that over the last couple of weeks we have heard that B&NES is part of a gigabit voucher pilot programme with Bristol. This will enable businesses to access vouchers to spend on infrastructure.   We will be working hard to ensure that Bath BID businesses get the most out of this opportunity and plan to support businesses to collaborate to make their vouchers achieve greater benefits.

The Gigabit Voucher scheme will offer a limited number of £3,000 vouchers which can be used for infrastructure to provide upload/download speeds of upto 1000MB.

We will be forwarding more information as soon as it becomes available and in the meantime if you are interested in learning more about the Giga programme, there is a workshop for businesses as part of this year’s Venture Fest in Bristol on 20 October.

City Centre Wifi

Planning permission has been granted and a company appointed to install a new free City Wi-Fi network. This will be installed before the end of 2017 across the city but will be available in time for the Christmas Market in the areas covered by that event.
