Christmas 2011

Lights Switch-On

John Cleese and his partner Jennifer Wade turned up to a 4000 full Milsom Street on Thursday 17th November 2011. The night kicked off with various home grown performers from X Factors' Lascel Wood to the fabulous Stocking Tops. Bath Rugby players along with Bath's most famous choir leader, Grenville Jones, hit the stage to join in the Christmas sing-a-long.

To entertain the late night shoppers, Bath’s Natural Theatre Company put on promenade performances in the only way they know how. This involved characters with flowerpots for heads, past-their-sell-by-date fairies, hilarious housewife shopaholics, and naughty gnomes (and even a couple of nasty old Scrooges to put a dampener on things).

BID Manager Andrew Cooper was extremely happy with the nights turn out. “The Christmas Switch-On marks the start of Christmas and late night shopping in Bath. The event was spectacular with a huge turnout and great mix of performers and celebrities who made it an evening to remember.”

Christmas Market

The high profile lights switch-on event came a week before Bath's picturesque Christmas market which started Thursday 24th November until 11th December. With its magical setting next to the Abbey, more than 130 wooden chalets sell a wide choice of unusual and hand crafted gifts.  For Christmas shopping, there can be few more attractive cities in the country.  With its winning combination of independents and high street names, in a World Heritage setting, Bath offers a magical shopping experience.
